Voluntary control of the university community of the Agricultural University of Athens, concerning the infectious disease lab testing, for the coronavirus
On Wednesday, September 2nd, 2020, a meeting was held amongst the Head of the Coordination, Preparedness and Response Department of the National Organization of Public Health, Dr. Dimitrios Iliopoulos and his collaborators, with the Rector of the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA), Professor Spyridon Kintzios. During the meeting, which took place at the Rectorate of the Agricultural University of Athens, the cooperation of the University with the National Organization of Public Health was settled, aiming at the voluntary control of the university community of AUA, regarding the existence of antibodies, against the coronavirus.
The results of this research on the general population, shall contribute, significantly to both the improvement of the virus epidemiological evolution and the possible development of immunity against the pandemic. Such a voluntary test will include taking of blood samples by a specialized taskforce of the National Organization of Public Health, in a specially designed area of AUA and shall be held, at a first stage, during a two-day procedure, within the next period. Furthermore, it must be highlighted that the process of the samples receiving and analysing (at the central laboratories of the National Organization of Public Health), will be performed under complete security conditions, abiding by all the Data Protection Regulations.
