Visit of the Hellenic Wheelchair Basketball Federation (H.W.B.F.) to the Agricultural University of Athens
On Thursday, October 12, 2023, the Agricultural University of Athens welcomed the Hellenic Wheelchair Basketball Federation (H.W.B.F.) to its basketball court.
The vice-rector of the Agricultural University of Athens, Eleana Miliou, the Project Manager of the European University for the Smart Urban Coastal Sustainability EU-CONEXUS, Vera Charitou, and the AUA gymnasts team, consisting of Panagiotis Kalaitzis, Dimitris Danitsas, Suzana Lampropoulou, and Xenia Tsaliangou, welcomed members of H.W.B.F. in an event aimed at raising awareness and informing the university community about issues related to the lives of people with mobility impairments.
The event saw the presence of the National Wheelchair Basketball Team players Giannis Chaldaios and Antonis Gotzarai, who openly discussed their daily routines and training methods, offering students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience by playing, attempting to shoot, and even moving in a racing wheelchair.
Subsequently, Soula Zacharaki, occupational therapist and coordinator of the National Wheelchair Basketball Team, delivered a brief theoretical explanation about the sport of wheelchair basketball and its significance for people with mobility limitations. She also answered any questions posed by the participants.
The appointment of the university community of the Agricultural University of Athens and H.W.B.F. has been renewed for October 21 and 22, 2023, at the 4th Hope 3on3 Streetball event at Syntagma Square. A basketball court will be set up for 3v3 matches. Additionally, there will be a two-day event, ‘Sports for Inclusion,’ taking place at AUA on November 9 and 10. The students from the university will actively participate, both as part of the event’s program and as volunteers.
