UTCB marks International Day of People with Disabilities
Our partners from Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest marked the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, an occasion that emphasizes the importance of inclusion, diversity, and equal opportunities for all. This day, observed worldwide on December 3rd, serves as a reminder to foster a society where individuals with disabilities can thrive, contribute, and be recognized for their unique abilities.
UTCB recognizes the significance of creating awareness about the challenges faced by people with disabilities and the importance of creating an inclusive environment. Through the project Sports Handicap Inclusive Experience, the university has organized an event in collaboration with the Association Ridică-te și Umblă (Rise and Walk) to raise awareness about various disabilities, break down stereotypes, and promote a culture of understanding and acceptance.
This association aims to provide resources, services, and support to facilitate the integration and active participation of people with disabilities in the community. Within their project” Teacher for a day”, people with mobility and vision impairments came to UTCB, sharing valuable insights into their experiences, needs, and personal triumphs. For some of them it was for the first time visiting a university and speaking in an amphitheater in front of students. They had the chance to talk about their challenges and to present their perspective regarding the disability or the how they presented it – a different type of ability. This exchange not only contributes to breaking down barriers but also promotes a more inclusive and supportive environment within the university community.
The activity took place within the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics in Construction, where 50 students participated alongside representatives from the Career Counseling and Orientation Center, encouraging the participating students to utilize the center’s resources for support and guidance throughout their campus life. At the end of the meeting some students wanted to continue the collaboration with the association through volunteering activities.
We hope that marking this day will send a powerful message about the importance of inclusivity and diversity in education and beyond. By celebrating the achievements, acknowledging the challenges, and promoting ongoing awareness, UTCB reaffirms its commitment to creating an environment where everyone can thrive, regardless of their abilities or disabilities.
