SETU Undergraduate Student Nominated to Join the EU-CONEXUS Student Board
John Kennedy, a second-year Bachelor of Arts student at South East Technological University (SETU), Waterford, has been nominated to join the EU-CONEXUS Student Board. John, who is currently taking a Joint Honours degree in French and Irish, will participate in the Study Abroad Programme and take up an Erasmus opportunity next year in Lille, France, while also participating in virtual meetings as an EU-CONEXUS student board member.
The EU-CONEXUS student board plays a crucial role in representing the interests of students within the alliance. Their responsibilities include improving the quality of student life, advocating for student rights, and significantly contributing to the overall student experience. A student board member’s role is multifaceted, requiring effective communication and advocacy skills, as well as genuine commitment to enhancing the student experience within the alliance. This collaborative approach ensures that the student voice matters, especially when it comes to developing and enhancing academic programmes, and student-related projects. John’s nomination has been warmly welcomed by current student board members.
“I am very interested in multiple areas of sustainability. Reactive travel is an issue in Ireland, while in other parts of Europe active travel is successfully implemented and utilised by the society. Given this area of interest and the European element, I am delighted to participate in the EU-CONEXUS student board. It is a fantastic opportunity to connect with other students and I look forward to using my language skills and bringing attention to the importance of language learning,” John commented upon his election to the EU-CONEXUS Student Board.
Erin McNamara Cullen, Programme Leader BA (Hons)/BA (Hons) International, also noted that “John is a diligent and hard-working student here at SETU. I’m delighted he is taking up this role and joining the EU-CONEXUS student board, which will no doubt open up many new opportunities for him. With him on board, the Student Board will bring into focus the values of internationalisation through a truly meaningful experience that will serve to impact future student outcomes and enhance the university experience for all.”
EU-CONEXUS offers many opportunities, such as JobTeaser, the European job and internship platform, which also provides resources and videos, and the Student Ambassador Programme. Participating in EU-CONEXUS activities is an ideal opportunity to showcase your abilities and skills and to build competencies for interviews and CVs.
SETU now have representation at undergraduate and at post-graduate level. The EU-CONEXUS student board relies on active involvement of students across the alliance in shaping the direction of EU-CONEXUS and underscores the importance of student representation in decision-making processes within the academic community.
