South East Technological University hosts EU-CONEXUS Academic Council meeting
Representatives from all nine EU-CONEXUS Alliance universities participated in roundtable discussions as part of the Academic Council meeting at SETU Carlow on October 24-25.
The EU-CONEXUS Academic Council is a strategic decision-making body. It plays a crucial role in shaping the governance and direction of joint educational programmes and activities centred on the topic of Smart Urban Coastal Sustainability.
SETU’s David Denieffe, Vice President for Student Experience, currently holds the strategic role of Council Chair, along with SETU representative Dr. Helen Murphy, Head of the School of Education and Lifelong Learning, who is also a council member.
Highlighting the value of these discussions, David Denieffe remarked that “SETU is delighted to host this productive meeting, and we look forward to future collaborative projects with our EU-CONEXUS colleagues. It is an exciting time for higher education in Europe, and SETU is proud to be part of this vibrant and innovative European Alliance.”
General overview
The two-day meeting featured an agenda that gave participants an opportunity to discuss the development and delivery of EU-CONEXUS’s academic offerings, structure, and performance with a strong focus on quality assurance. The event also provided valuable networking opportunities, enabling participants to develop connections with their peers whilst exploring the cultural and social highlights of the South East region.
SETU and EU-CONEXUS
SETU is a member of the EU-CONEXUS European University Alliance, which unites nine universities across Europe. EU-CONEXUS offers joint education programmes, mobility and research opportunities. Within this alliance, SETU is leading the development of a Joint Master in Smart Urban Coastal Sustainability and 20 micro-credentials at Level 9.
To align these new programmes with the needs of communities, industries, and the labour market across Europe, a skills survey was conducted across the EU-CONEXUS partner countries: Ireland, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, France, Lithuania, Spain, Romania, and Germany. Survey topics include green skills, green competencies, and green digital skills. In turn, micro-credentials are set to become available to mid-career professionals in the coming months. SETU, in collaboration with university partners, is also leading the creation of a series of international career development support opportunities for students and staff within the alliance.
