Life Sciences and Biotechnology Institute | LSBI is a leading research institution dedicated to promotion and coordination of both basic and applied joint research activities within EU-CONEXUS+ partners, in the sections of: A) Agriculture, Aquaculture, Forestry, Zoology, Biology, Marine Sciences etc B) Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics, Immunology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Synthetic Biology, Biopolymers etc, C) Medicine, Veterinary medicine, Pharmacology, Biomedical and Clinical Research, Gene Therapy, Nutrition Sciences etc D) Bioinformatics, databases construction, big data processing, software development etc | AUA, UCV, LRU, KU, UROS, FredU, UTCB, UNIZD, SETU |
Environmental Sciences and Biodiversity Institute | ESBI’s primary objective is to address the challenges of environmental transition by adapting to global changes, be they climate-related, environmental, or anthropogenic. It aims to leverage a deeper understanding of ecosystem services to not only mitigate risks but also seize opportunities. The main focus of ESBI’s research will revolve around analysing socio-ecological systems (SES) and the biophysical interactions within coastal areas, including riverine and estuarine continuums. This research will encompass aspects such as environmental quality, biodiversity, and the provision of societal goods and benefits derived from ecosystem services. The research will examine the ecological structure and functioning of ecosystems, governance, and territorial planning in coastal zones. It will closely observe the natural resources within these areas, monitoring their evolution and assessing biodiversity indicators of species and ecosystems to better comprehend the impacts of global changes. Additionally, ESBI will study the sustainable exploitation of these resources, aiming to generate goods and services that contribute to the well-being of populations, including valuable natural assets for biotechnological applications. Furthermore, ESBI will focus on the protection and restoration of coastal ecosystems, employing various approaches ranging from conservation efforts to the application of Nature-Based Solutions. These endeavors aim to restore the ecological structure and function of coastal areas while preserving and enhancing ecosystem services. ESBI’s approach will take a multiscale perspective, encompassing temporal and spatial dimensions, and a multidisciplinary approach that integrates the value chain from humanities and social sciences to environmental sciences. | KU, AUA, UCV, LRU, UROS, FredU, UTCB, UNIZD, SETU |
Coastal Engineering Institute | The Coastal Engineering Institute has the objective to bring together researchers from EU-CONEXUS partner institutions around common engineering fields of interest, thus facilitating the sharing of equipment, research outputs and methodology, as well as joint research and innovation projects proposals for regional, national or international competitive calls. | AUA, UCV, LRU, KU, UROS, FredU, UTCB, UNIZD, SETU |
Social, Culture and Human Sciences Institute | This Institute will be part of an Human and Social Sciences and therefore human Smart Sustainable Urban Coast approach focusing on the place of man and society in coastal areas. It will focuses more specifically on the ways of inhabiting the coast and to carry out various activities (eg tourism), the long time that characterizes the historical approach of these particular places, the numerous cultural stakes that result, the aspects international and multicultural aspects of these transitional spaces, the issues of territorial governance and the norms and rules that regulate man-made coastal areas. Its disciplines areas will include Social Sciences, Law Sciences, Political Sciences, Economy and Enterprise, Educational Sciences, Experimental/Social/Basic Psychology, Philosophy, Social and Cultural Anthropology, History, Bibliometry, Philology, Literature, Linguistics, Visual and Scenic Arts, Ethic, BioLaw, Bioethics. | AUA, UCV, LRU, KU, UROS, FredU, UTCB, UNIZD, SETU |
